Definition Of A Mixtape, Vol. 2 [Episode #62]

*To download: Click on photo above or Click Here

DJ JFresh-One presents the 2nd installment to the previous "Definition Of A Mixtape" which was dropped online in Spring 2012. The main objective to this mixtape is to continue to bring back the true definition to the hip-hop mixtape. The music scene is indeed flooded with mixtape CDs & downloads from the popular artist to the amateur bedroom DJ. Although, majority of today's so-called mixtapes contain either "garbage rap tracks" or wack mixes, most are not really "mixtapes"....they are typically known or should be known either as a "street album", a "demo", or a "promo CD". The tradition of a mixtape in Hip-Hop is based on a performance, a theme or a soundtrack of a DJ and it is presented in a recorded MIX onto a tape (nowadays a digital file). So what Fresh brings to the tables on both mixes is what he claims a simple solution: a true mixtape with straight up Hip-Hop music. Enjoy!

Um...Battle? Common vs. Drake

Alright, so I guess this "battle" has been spreading word across the internet lately. In case you haven't caught on, here's the scoop....

About a month or so ago Common released a music video to "Sweet" which takes aim at sweet rappers trying to be hard and always singing. It is a song with no specific person attacked just a general outlook on what goes on in Hip-Hop nowadays. Then the "Degrassi Thug" took offense and assumed the song was for him (gee, someone is guilty). Drake showed his emotions during his Christmas Concert with outbursts.

Later on during an interview on Shade45, Common responded to Drake's response by admitting: well he does fit that category. Not long after Drake released a verse on Rick Ross' "Stay Schemin'" dissing the Chi-Town MC without mentioning names. Supposedly, it's Drake's hardest rhymes.

Now just a little less than a week after Drake's verse, Com hi-jacks the track and added his diss verse like a lyrical weapon. Not only does Common specifically directs this verse to Drake but also calls him out by name.

Personally, I think this is just dust to Common, not worth being a battle. Drake is a lover with street cred like Zack Morris! But it Drake being the way he is, someone had to deflate his ego. Common can easily take this clown out with one line. I guess we'll see where this goes.

(Below are links to the videos. 1st is Common's "Sweet", 2nd is Rick Ross/Drake "Stay Schemin'", and 3rd is Common's Remix on the last verse)
