Happy 2010! New 12-CD Mixtape Series from Madlib

Welcome back to The Mix Lab, Happy New Year! Here some news to start off 2010...I know its been around the web for about a month or so. DJ/Producer/MC Madlib and Stones Throw Records will be releasing a once-a-month mixtape that totals to 12 CDs starting this month (January). This special mixtape series is titled "Madlib's Medicine Show".

Stones Throw Records are selling a limited amount of the first issue online as a pre-release advanced CD. Plus, you may also buy LP or CD over at UndergroundHipHop.

Speaking of Madlib, here at The Mix Lab we will be droppin' a special podcast & mixtape this month featuring exclusively Madlib influenced tracks (produced, emceeing, features). If y'all enjoyed the J Dilla - Beats, Rhymes & Donuts, this will also be a dope addition to the iPod or stereo!

Also expect another new episode and a couple other special mixtapes thats ready to launch!

Common Workin' On New Album "The Believer"

Yeah, it is correct! Common is gonna be droppin' a new album by early summer! He claims to be taking his music back to RAW hip-hop.

"Yeah, I’m working on The Believer right now. I’m actually working with No I.D. and Twilite Tone and Kanye West. Man, we’re looking forward to making some powerful music. It’s really in the beginning stages — the first quarter. But I plan to really focus and get it done."



When asked about his work with No I.D., Com explained why it feels right this time around.


"I feel really excited, man. We did some preliminary pre-production type stuff, and it just felt so good to be working with him. It felt like, 'Man, life is really, really good.' It’s full circle. You meet up with the person who’s partially responsible for beginning your career, and you’re like, 'Man, this is really cool — that we meet at this place in our lives and our creative journeys and we really are enthused to work with each other.'"


After Common's last release, he is ready to take it back to "raw Hip Hop," in his words.
"We know that we want to do some raw Hip Hop. That’s exactly the direction and feel we want, so that’s the basis of it. ‘Ye and I definitely know we want to do some pure Hip Hop."

Episode #17 - DJ JFresh-One "Beats, Rhymes & Donuts" (a tribute mixtape to J Dilla)

Welcome to The Mix Lab Podcast! Where we put quality first. Quality as in REAL Hip-Hop of course!

Finally, here is Episode #17 in full effect! It is also a special treat for all you that enjoy the sounds of J Dilla. Why you may ask, because this episode is also a NEW mixtape that I, DJ JFresh-One, created recently. This mix is a tribute to the very talented Jay Dee aka J Dilla (R.I.P.). I titled this mixtape as “Beats, Rhymes & Donuts”. It’s over an hour long with a variety of selected tracks that were produced or performed by J Dilla. I also included remixes that were inspired from Dilla and threw in some of my own special blends.

I don’t really expect much outta this mix, because it’s just something I wanted to put together in dedication to Dilla’s work and influence. Plus, it’s a mix for all of us hip-hop fans to enjoy. It was tough to select tracks out of Dilla’s massive library, but I had to drop in a certain amount in a small timeframe.

Listen to it with pleasure in your iPod, on your box, or just cruise to it in your ride!
I will be loading up a special download soon for those that request a mixtape with songs individually tracked and in higher sound quality. For now, here it is as a podcast episode.
